Learn how to create and manage a production company or talent agency

Updated today

🔐 Anyone can create a Workspace from their main dashboard but this feature is only accessible on 🖥️ Desktop Devices.

Overview

Circus offers two types of workspaces:

  1. Production Companies – Designed for key personnel such as Heads of Production, Producers, and Studio Executives, this workspace allows management of multiple productions under a single entity or bank account. Employees linked to the workspace have access to all associated productions.

  2. Talent Agencies – Built for Talent Agents, this workspace enables them to manage their roster and banking details for receiving payments on behalf of their talent. Employees linked to the workspace can access all transactions and the agency’s full roster.

Creating Workspaces

To set up a new workspace, please contact one of your Circus Account Managers, or support.

If you've been authorized to create a workspace, first click on your profile avatar located at the bottom left corner of your screen when using a desktop device. Next, select Create Workspace.

In the popup window, first choose whether you're creating a Production Company or Talent Agency, then add a mandatory icon for your workspace by clicking the Upload button. Choose an image file from your desktop, ensuring it's at least 300 x 300 pixels in jpg or png format for optimal clarity.

Nex, enter your workspace name (e.g., Frame Films) and click the Create Workspace button to finalize the setup.

Editing Workspaces

Once you've created a workspace, you can always go back into the settings to change the Workspace Name and Icon by clicking on the Workspace from the main dashboard, then click on the settings icon under your Workspace Icon in the left navigation.

Here you can also indicate the Legal Entity Name, Taxpayer Country, Business Number, Province of Registration, Mailing Address, Office Phone Number, and Website.

Connecting a Bank Account

Production Companies

Production companies can connect bank accounts in two ways: either with a single account used across all productions (common for commercial production companies), or with separate accounts for each production-specific entity.

To connect a bank account to be used across all productions, start by selecting the desired workspace from your main dashboard. Next, navigate to Workspace Settings on the left menu and click Banking. From there, select Connect Account to begin the process.

You’ll be prompted to answer a series of questions as part of the KYC (Know Your Customer) process. This is a standard procedure designed to verify your identity and ensure compliance with Canadian FINTRAC (Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada) regulations. These questions help maintain the security and integrity of financial transactions while adhering to legal requirements for anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) measures.

Talent Agencies

Talent Agencies can connect a bank account to receive direct deposit payments on behalf of all their workers.

To connect a bank account toggle on 'Direct Deposit', then:

  1. Click "Connect Bank Account" on the Payments page of your work profile during onboarding.

  2. Select Your Bank from the list. If it’s not listed among the top banks, use the search function to find it by name or institution number (3-digit code).

  3. Choose 'Business' as your Account Type

  4. Click Continue at the bottom of the screen.

  5. Accept the Terms and Conditions of our secure payment processor to link your bank account to the platform.

  6. Enter Your Bank Login Credentials to validate the account and ensure payments are sent to the correct bank account.

You’ll be redirected back to your Workspace Settings page, where you’ll see a 'Connected' label along with the last four digits of your bank account and your bank name. If you need to update your bank information, simply click the “Edit Bank Account” button and follow the same steps as before.

Talent Agencies in Multiple Regions: Contact customer support to learn how Circus can accommodate different bank accounts for agencies operating across multiple provinces.

Switching Workspaces

If you're a member of multiple workspaces, you can easily switch between them. From your main dashboard, click on the workspace avatar to navigate to a specific workspace.

To change workspaces while already inside one, click on the workspace icon located at the top left of your screen and select the desired workspace from the list. You can return to your main dashboard at any time using the same method.

Workspace Permissions

The workspace will initially be owned by the user who created it. However, ownership can be transferred to another user, and additional personnel can be granted access to all productions within the workspace by contacting support. For more details, see our guide on Managing Permissions.
