At Circus, security is a top priority. That’s why multi-factor authentication (MFA) is mandatory for all users. MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring more than just a password to log in—like an authenticator code, SMS verification, or fingerprint scan. This helps ensure only you can access your account and keeps bad actors out.
Enabling MFA while logging in.
When logging in you will be asked to enable MFA before accessing your dashboard.
Authentication Methods
We offer three different methods for authentication:
Authenticator App: Download an app like Google Authenticator or Authy to generate time-based one-time codes for secure login.
SMS/Voice Call: Receive a one-time code via text or voice call. (Currently only available in Canada.)
Security Key (Biometrics): Fingerprint or Face ID becomes available only after you’ve enabled one of the methods above.
Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar app
Open Google Authenticator (or any time-based code generator app)
Tap the + icon (usually in the bottom right)
Select Scan a QR code
Scan the QR code shown on your screen. Once scanned, you’ll receive a one-time code to complete MFA setup.
Note: If you're setting up MFA on the same mobile device you're using for the code generator app, you won’t be able to scan the QR code. Instead, choose the “Enter a setup key” option and manually copy and paste the code provided.
SMS/Voice call
If you choose SMS/Voice Call, you'll get a text or a call with a six-digit code that you can enter to confirm your identity
Please note that Circus can only support Canadian phone numbers at this time. Contact support@circushr.com if you are not receiving any text messages with a Canadian phone number.
Security key (biometrics)
If your personal device supports biometrics such as FaceID or fingerprint, you can opt to use these to confirm your identity
You’ll need to choose SMS/Voice or Authenticator as a backup option before activating the Security key/biometrics method
Enabling MFA while logged in
If for any reason you are required to enable MFA while you're logged in, click on your profile avatar in the bottom left of your screen, then on Account Settings. Then, choose Configure MFA and follow the same steps as above.
Troubleshooting MFA
What if I’ve lost access to my MFA device?
If you can’t access your MFA device, there are only two ways to recover your account:
Use your backup code – This was provided when you first set up MFA.
Contact support – If you no longer have your backup code, reach out to our support team for help verifying your identity and regaining access.
We strongly recommend saving your backup code in a secure location when setting up MFA.
I'm still having issues – how do I contact support?
If you’ve lost your phone, changed your phone number, deleted your authentication app, or aren’t receiving your SMS codes, please contact support for help regaining access. If you’re not receiving texts, try checking with your phone carrier first. And if you don’t have a smartphone, consider using a voice call or text message as an alternative MFA option.
Can I disable MFA?
No, MFA cannot be turned off. It's required to protect your account and ensure the security of sensitive production data.
How often will I need to authenticate?
You’ll be asked to authenticate every time you log in to your Circus account.
